Overview of Kindness Week/No Place For Hate/Diversity & Inclusion

Kindness Week: Jerabek Elementary focuses on creating a sustained culture of kindness throughout our school, our student population, and our community. The key to this program is our Koalas! Peer to peer emphasis allows our students to be empowered to make change in the world, represent how they want to world to be, and create habits of kindness for themselves, their families, their peer groups, their community, and for the world! While respect, responsibility, and kindness are main focus points all year long, we have a “deep dive” week-long emphasis three times a year with classroom activities, at-home participation with parents/families, community projects, and more. “Kindness In Mind” activities take place all week long, including read aloud live events and videos, writing and art projects, discussions, mindfulness exercises, videos, and more. ADL/No Place For Hate: The Anti-Defamation League is a leading anti-hate organization. Founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of anti-Semitism and bigotry, its timeless mission is to protect the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment for all. Today, ADL continues to fight all forms of hate with the same vigor and passion. ADL is a global leader in exposing extremism and delivering anti-bias education, and is a leading organization in training law enforcement. ADL is the first call when acts of anti-Semitism occur. ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate. As a district, San Diego Unified is committed to supporting all schools in their endeavors to become a “No Place For Hate” certified school site. Jerabek achieved this goal our 2019-2020 school year! Diversity/Equity/Inclusion Committee: This new committee aims to help Jerabek in its ongoing efforts to be a truly inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported. We believe that the diverse experiences and perspectives that families bring to our school should be viewed as a resource, a strength, and a benefit to all. There are a variety of projects in the planning ranging from a library update project to professional development workshops for all staff. For questions, email [email protected].
